Decimal Tug of War – Compare and Find the Difference

Go to the link below and practice identifying which decimal amount is larger.  Next, subtract to find the difference between the two decimal amounts.  This is an interactive decimal game of Tug of War.  Can you beat the computer or a friend?  When you are done explain how this game could help someone struggling with learning decimals.  Did this game also help you?  Explain how.

Make Sense of Numbers

We use common sense to solve math problems at school and in the real world.  To do this we need to have a sense of numbers.  Go to the link below and watch the video to review what we have learned about the number sense of place value.  When you are done give three examples of situations where you would need to know place value to solve a problem in the real world.  http://www.linkslearning.org/Kids/1_Math/2_Illustrated_Lessons/3_Place_Value/index.html

Fraction Fun With Cooking

Did you know that cooking is all about fractions?  We see whole numbers, numbers less than 1, and mixed fractions.  Ask an adult to help with this activity.  Go to the link below and choose one of the recipes.  If you made this recipe for the whole class you would have to increase the ingredients.  If there are 20 students in the class how would you have to change the recipe to make enough for everyone?  Write how you changed the fractions to make enough for the class in the comments section below.  Do you want to share your work?  Cook enough for the class and bring it in to share!  If you don’t want to cook for the class you could still explain to the class how you changed your recipe.
