Fraction Fun With Cooking

Did you know that cooking is all about fractions?  We see whole numbers, numbers less than 1, and mixed fractions.  Ask an adult to help with this activity.  Go to the link below and choose one of the recipes.  If you made this recipe for the whole class you would have to increase the ingredients.  If there are 20 students in the class how would you have to change the recipe to make enough for everyone?  Write how you changed the fractions to make enough for the class in the comments section below.  Do you want to share your work?  Cook enough for the class and bring it in to share!  If you don’t want to cook for the class you could still explain to the class how you changed your recipe.

This Week in Reading – Cause and Effect

This week in Reading we are studying cause and effect relationships.  We are reading The Name Game and additional Weekly Reader articles.  You are going to identify a cause and effect relationship in how you got your own name.  For example, a new mom missed her grandmother Katherine who had died (cause) so she named her new daughter Katherine (effect).  Talk to your parents and find out how you got your name and write the cause and effect relationship in how you got your name in the comments section under this post.  For extra credit find another cause and effect relationship in how someone else you know got their name.
