This Week in Reading – The Last Dragon
This week we are learning about a boy named Peter who goes to stay with his Great Aunt in Chinatown for summer vacation. The story was about dragons. The story told us about the different dragons that live around the world. The dragons in Europe were evil. The dragons in China were used for good luck. China dragons were also used for worth.

Legend has it that dragons are larger lizards and breath out fire. Humans think dragons represent evil but Asia, especially China and Japan, think dragons are friendly creatures and bring good luck. Western dragons are small and have long bodies. They have two horns and they don’t have any wings. Their soft breath forms clouds. Insead of roaring it sounds like beating gongs and jingling bells. Chinese dragons live anywhere near water. China thinks dragons are kind, wise friends,and are human beings.

In different places the dragons look different, and do different things. Dragons are made up, mystical creatures. Some are friendly some are deadly. The people in China take designs and make a BIIIIIIIIG dragon costume!!! Also 20 big men stand under the dragon and they dance and parade through the streets to bring good luck.
